DESCRIPTION:Before Leonardo da Vinci became a legend\, he was an apprentice in Andrea del Verrocchio’s vibrant Florentine workshop. While working on The Baptism of Christ\, Leonardo’s contribution was so exquisitely refined that\, according to legend\, Verrocchio never painted again. This extraordinary moment—where mastery quietly eclipses tradition—forms the heart of this course. \n\n\n\nIn this immersive oil painting course\, we will focus on painting the two angels from The Baptism of Christ\, exploring the moment where High Renaissance naturalism truly comes alive. You’ll learn how to build luminous flesh and atmosphere using the Sfumato technique—Leonardo’s famously subtle\, almost magical method of soft transitions. We’ll also dive deep into convincing drapery folds\, understanding how fabric flows\, settles\, and supports form\, and you’ll learn how to integrate gold leaf into your paintings\, uniting brilliance with classical tradition. \n\n\n\nSeveral of you mentioned wanting to finally get to grips with painting drapery with confidence—there could be no better guide than a young Leonardo himself. DESCRIPTION:This 2nd stage involves studying the male and female forms through photographic exercises. Revealing the underlying abstraction rhythms and leading you through various lay-ins from common perspectives. Following these exercises\, you will then implement these lessons in the context of a live model. We will be recapping Stage 1 in the first lesson & handouts for this stage will be available to get you up to speed. \nThis stage will be great for beginners and more advanced as it is always progressive to rekindle old skills and perhaps learn some new ones! There will be four-figure stage courses in total. DESCRIPTION:A FREE night of Art\, live music and interactive art sponsored by Lost and Grounded Brewery. Featuring music from folk punk duo Butcher/Berkeley and DJ Pazuzu. \nOBLITERATION PORTRAITS is a new solo show comprising of 30 original paintings by James Chen-Wishart. The title is a reference to Yayoi Kusama’s idea of ‘Self Obliteration’\, which she achieved in her work through the use of repetition and pattern. James Chen-Wishart uses paintings of figurative skeletons in dark voids with heads made of light\, colour and organic forms. \nI want this to be a body of work to be about humanity\, emotions and encounters that transport us to different experiences of our existence. Starting with “comparative measurement techniques” navigating the human form using various mannequins eventually utilising these acquired skills to picture references and professional life models. \nFig stage 1 will be great for beginners and more advanced as it is always progressive to rekindle old skills and perhaps learn some new ones! There will be four-figure stage courses in total.
