Rebeca Santos
Rebeca Santos is a Portuguese fine artist based in Bristol, originally from Funchal. With a background in Visual Arts, Fine Arts, and Graphic Arts, her multidisciplinary training informs a practice that moves fluidly between traditional and contemporary visual languages.
At the core of her work lies a deep fascination with Surrealism and its boundless psychological landscapes. Drawing inspiration from the revolutionary ideas of André Breton and the dreamlike visions of Salvador Dalí, Santos explores the terrain of the unconscious, where psychic automatism, symbolism, and the fluid logic of dreams take centre stage. Her compositions inhabit a space where imagination and reality merge—where the irrational feels tangible, and the invisible becomes vividly present.
Painting and drawing remain her primary media, enabling an intimate, gestural exploration of form, texture, and emotion. However, her creative language extends beyond canvas and paper. Influenced by her studies in Graphic Arts, she incorporates elements of design, composition, and visual communication into her broader artistic practice, creating works that balance spontaneity with structural awareness.
Santos is inspired by the legacy and ambition of modern art movements, embracing their spirit of experimentation and reinvention. Her work seeks to construct what she describes as a fragile threshold between memory and imagination — a subjective objectiveness where personal narratives intersect with collective symbolism. Through layered imagery and evocative forms, she invites viewers into contemplative spaces that question perception, identity, and the nature of consciousness itself.
